*** UPDATE ***
Due to several requests for detailed instructions on how to build the creche, we have an updated posted on how to build a Willow Tree Creche. This post has dimensions, measurements, and a ton of good photos to help you build a creche like ours.
I know many of you are avid collectors of the Willow Tree nativity collection. Well since my mom gave Bree a starter set for her birthday, we decided that we would build a creche for it, seeing how purchasing one will cost in the neighborhood of $80.
So it took about $15 at Lowe’s (using some good coupons) in order to buy some poplar, a package of door shims, stain(Mediterranean Olive), and a nut. I will say this, though, poplar is a hard wood and it was absolutely painful to try to cut through it with my worn down miter saw. Another type of wood might be a better choice. After a lot of noise made in our basement and a lot of sawdust, here is the finished product. The coolest thing about it (unlike the standard Willow Tree creche as far as I know) is that it collapses flat for easy storage.
