One of the things we were most excited about in Olympic National Park was the opportunity to visit the Hoh Rainforest, one of the wettest places in the continental United States. For a couple of desert dwellers where almost every day is sunny, visiting somewhere so green and lush in the middle of July was really exciting. Strangely enough, the day we visited, was bright and sunny, something pretty rare in the middle of a rainforest.

It was just our luck that we arrived at the very end of the day after all the tired families had begun to head home. We had one of the busiest places in the park all to ourselves. We soaked it in slowly with what could possibly have been the slowest nature walk ever.

The insane amount of growth in the rainforest was mind boggling and such a relief from our dry, scrubby valley in Salt Lake.
